With above ground water storage tanks and other fracking advancements, natural gas is readily available for all Americans.
There is an abundance of natural gas in the United States, and it can be used for many things, including fueling our vehicles. Although natural gas is a wonderful alternative to gasoline, like any alternative fuel, there are some obstacles that we’ll need to overcome in order to rely on it fully. In our last blog, we went over the pros of natural gas vehicles, but today, we’ll be talking about some of the cons:
#1. There aren’t currently many natural gas vehicles available.
When you compare natural gas vehicles to vehicles that are fueled with regular gasoline, there are far more gasoline-powered vehicles available on the market. The number of natural gas vehicles is very small, and they typically cost a lot more. However, as the demand for natural gas vehicles rises, there is likely to be more options available in the future.
#2. There aren’t many natural gas fueling stations.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, there are only about 900 natural gas fueling stations in all of the United States. This means that most people who own natural gas vehicles have to find other ways to fuel up when they need to. Although home fueling is a definite possibility, the refueling device you’ll need can cost as much as $5,000, and that doesn’t even include installation.
These are just a couple of the obstacles we’ll need to overcome in order to rely fully on natural gas for fueling our vehicles. Learn more when you stay tuned for our next blog.
